How I can help
The nervous system
Gut bacteria, stress, diet, and environmental toxins affect the nervous system function and contribute to developing disorders such as anxiety, depression, pain, and migraines. As a naturopath, I work with my clients to eliminate these disturbing factors to nervous system health and prescribe herbal and nutritional supplements to support nervous system function.
Depression
Inflammation, family history, poor gut health, and nutritional deficiencies such as B12 can contribute to depression.
Chronic stress can increase inflammation and affect brain chemistry, so stress management techniques are instrumental in anxiety and depression.
Being a qualified yoga therapist and teacher, I can recommend specific yogic bathing exercises, mindfulness techniques, and poses to reduce physical and mental stress.
Omega 3 supplementation, turmeric, and various other nutritional supplements can help bring down inflammation that drives anxiety up. At the same time, herbs can reduce anxiety symptoms and improve resilience to stress.
Pain
Can be related to chronic conditions such as sports injuries, menstrual pain, or migraines. When used correctly, herbs and nutrients can manage pain and work to resolve the root cause.
Food can also be medicine or poison - For example, high carbohydrate and high sugar diets can exacerbate pain.
I regularly work with clients to manage pain holistically, relieving symptoms and treating the root cause.
Migraines
Food, inflammation, menstruation, and mitochondrial dysfunction are the most common causes of migraines I see in my clinic.
Other causes I see include magnesium deficiency, bright lights, strong smells, weather changes, sleep deprivation, and the oral contraceptive pill. Common food triggers include red wine, blue cheese, chocolate, and bananas, which all contain high levels of amines. As a naturopath, I may prescribe St Johns wort, Brahmi, Ginger, or Jamaican dogwood to reduce inflammation and pain and support circulation.
Due to modern farming practices, soils are deprived of magnesium and other minerals; therefore, magnesium supplementation may be needed, while specific B vitamins can relieve migraine symptoms.
